A 21-year-old mother, Nancy Munjiro, is currently on the run after she stabbed her two children, aged two and four, on Sunday afternoon, killing one instantly.
The incident occurred in Kianjogo village in Kahuro, Muranga, Kenya.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a statement, Nancy Munjiro turned the knife against her sons at their grandmother’s house, spilling their intestines before attempting suicide.
The suspect has been working as a house help in Kiriaini area, so she had visited her mother, who lives with the two kids, over the festive season.
“What the kids’ grandmother hoped would be a precious bonding moment between mother and sons as she stepped out of her house in the morning turned to be the darkest day of her life.
“She only came back to find her house turned into a murder scene, her grandchildren soaked in blood and sprawled on the floor,” DCI said.
Police who visited the scene believe that Munjiro might have attempted suicide before fleeing because they found a rope hanging from the roof at the crime scene.
The injured boy is in critical condition but undergoing treatment at Murang’a County Hospital.
