The Imo State Police Command, in collaboration with Vigilante Group, have repelled an attack on the palace of Eze Imo, HRH Eze Dr. E. C. Okeke, by suspected members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN group at Ezioha Amaifeke in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to the Police, at about 1:00 pm on Monday, the gunmen stormed the palace heavily armed, but they were repelled by the gallant personnel. One of the attackers was shot dead while others fled with gunshot injuries.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Micheal Abattam, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Hussaini, had deployed the tactical teams to patrol every community in the State and closely
monitor the palaces of traditional rulers.

“The hoodlums, in their numbers, besieged the palace of the traditional ruler armed with assorted weapons but were subdued by the superior fire-power of the Command’s tactical teams, and in the process, one of the hoodlums was
neutralized, while others fled into the bush with bullet injuries.

“On searching the body of the neutralized bandit, several charms were seen tied around his waist. Other items also recovered include one ID Card, one locally made Improvised Explosive Devices, five bottles containing fuel, cash of
N20,000 only, one Pump Action Gun with four live cartridges,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Command’s tactical teams are on the trail of other fleeing members of the gang.
