High Court sitting in Lokoja the Kogi State capital on Thursday sentenced two armed robbers, Bala Mohammed and Zekeri Hassan, to eight years imprisonment for armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms.

The sitting judge, Justice Sunday Out of the Kogi State High Court III, delivering the judgement said the prosecution had proved the case beyond doubt. He said instead of the convict to engage in legitimate business they decided to go against the law and acquire wealth through criminal activities.

Justice Otu noted that the court in reaching the decision so the need to send a strong message to the society.

Then convicts were sentenced to eight years for criminal conspiracy, another eight years for armed robbery and seven years for illegal possession of firearms. The judge added that the sentences would run concurrently.

The prosecuting counsel, Mohammed Abaji, of the State Ministry of Justice said the convicts along with others now at large, had on April 25, 2015, robbed a Department of State Service Officer on duty and carted away his phones, HP Laptop, Mini-Uzi machine gun and the sum of N27,000.
