The State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni who gave the update on Tuesday while briefing journalist at the State Headquarters, stated that investigations into the case would be concluded within the week, a prelude to the arraignment of CSP Mohammed Yakubu, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO)
Fatai Owoseni in the press briefing warned all DPO's in the State to caution their men or be ready to be held for vicarious liability in place of their subordinates. The Police boss also confirmed that a Police armorer attached to the Ipakodo Police Station, Sergeant Sunday Odu, allegedly sold 750 pieces of ammunition from to the Division's armory and replaced them with pebbles
It would be recall that, CSP Mohammed Yakubu had led Policemen from his Station to Wosilatu Dauda Street, Ijeshatedo to raid miscreants around the neighborhood at the time Ayoade, the victim and his friends were attending a birthday party. The DPO and his men shot into the air to disperse the gathering.
Based on the gun shot, pandemonium ensued and people attending the party reportedly began to scramble for cover, CSP Yakubu who led the Police team allegedly chased the fun seekers into a building and shot Jamiu Ayoade on the head at a close range.
The 23-year-old apprentice was said to have bled to death on the way to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.
Following the public outcry as a result of the death of the apprentice from the DPO’s gunshot, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni ordered preliminary investigation to ascertain the culpability of the DPO. Owoseni who on Tuesday said CSP Yakubu violated rules of engagement during the raid on the area, also confirmed that CSP Yakubu who is currently detained at the State CID Panti will be arraign as soon as the administrative processes on the case are done with.Last modified on Thursday, 18 May 2017
